Platinum Warranty: parts and labour, four years, included on gas engines in non-commercial use

4-year no-fault nationwide warranty — includedOn gas engines in non-commercial use, at no extra charge. The builder’s standard cover is 3 years, parts only. Every gas engine we sell includes the 4-year no-fault warranty with labour, at no extra charge.

  • “No fault” means we do not investigate why it failed — if a covered engine fails inside the term, it is covered.
  • Labour is paid up to CAD $95.00 per hour — a cap on the rate, not a flat payout — and only for the remove-and-replace hours in the Mitchell labour guide. Diagnostic time is covered up to 2 hours, and fluids up to CAD $200.00. Towing and a rental car are not covered. Anything not listed here needs to be agreed with us before the work starts.
  • The 4 years start the day the engine is installed, and a claim needs proof that a professional shop installed it.
  • Unlimited kilometres, and no deductible.
  • Call us before any warranty work starts, so we can authorise it. Labour paid on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered.
  • A claim starts with a call to us. We file it with the manufacturer, and the manufacturer pays it.

Diesel engines, and engines put into commercial service, are not covered by this 4-year warranty — the terms vary by engine, so call us for the terms on the unit you’re pricing.

Mitsubishi 4B1 Four (2.0 / 2.4)

Also known as: 4B1 series, 4B11, 4B12, 4B11T, World Engine (Mitsubishi), GEMA

Overview & history

The 4B1 family is Mitsubishi's share of the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance — the three-way joint venture with Chrysler and Hyundai that produced a common modern four-cylinder architecture for all three companies. Introduced for the 2007-2008 model years, it replaced the long-serving iron-block 4G6 engines with an all-aluminum, chain-driven twin-cam design with variable valve timing, which was lighter, quieter and considerably more efficient. In North America the 2.0-litre 4B11 powered the Lancer and the 2.4-litre 4B12 the Outlander and Lancer Sportback. Its most significant chapter was the turbocharged 4B11T fitted to the Lancer Evolution X: after ten generations built around the iron-block 4G63T, Mitsubishi switched its rally-bred flagship to an aluminum block, a change that was controversial among tuners but produced 291 horsepower in stock form.

Specs & engineering

  • •All-aluminum construction: aluminum block with cast-in liners and an aluminum twin-cam 16-valve head.
  • •Chain-driven double overhead camshafts — no timing belt.
  • •Variable valve timing (MIVEC) on the intake and, on later versions, both camshafts.
  • •Two displacements here: 2.0L (4B11) and 2.4L (4B12).
  • •Naturally aspirated output was roughly 152 hp (2.0) and 168-170 hp (2.4).
  • •The turbocharged 4B11T in the Lancer Evolution X made 291 hp in North American trim.

Generations & variants

  • •4B11 2.0L (2007-2015): Lancer and Lancer Sportback.
  • •4B12 2.4L (2007-2015): Outlander, Lancer GTS and Lancer Sportback.
  • •4B11T turbocharged (2008-2015): Lancer Evolution X and Lancer Ralliart.

Vehicles it powered

  • •Mitsubishi Lancer (2008-2015)
  • •Mitsubishi Outlander (2007-2015)
  • •Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X (2008-2015)
  • •Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart (2009-2015)

Did you know?

  • ★The Lancer Evolution X was the first Evo to abandon the iron-block 4G63T in favour of this aluminum engine — a switch that divided the tuning community.
  • ★Mitsubishi, Chrysler and Hyundai jointly developed this engine architecture through the Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance, meaning direct competitors shared a common design.
