Engine warranty terms
Two warranties, depending on the engine. Both are written out in full below, including what they do not pay — because the moment to find that out is before the work starts, not when the bill arrives.
4-year no-fault nationwide warranty — included
On gas engines in non-commercial use. The builder’s standard cover is 3 years, parts only. Every gas engine we sell includes the 4-year no-fault warranty with labour, at no extra charge.
- What it costs
- Nothing extra — it is in the price of the engine.
- Term
- The 4 years start the day the engine is installed, and a claim needs proof that a professional shop installed it.
- “No fault”
- “No fault” means we do not investigate why it failed — if a covered engine fails inside the term, it is covered.
- Labour
- Labour is paid up to CAD $95.00 per hour — a cap on the rate, not a flat payout — and only for the remove-and-replace hours in the Mitchell labour guide. Diagnostic time is covered up to 2 hours, and fluids up to CAD $200.00.
- Not covered
- Towing and a rental car are not covered. Anything not listed here needs to be agreed with us before the work starts.
- Limits
- Unlimited kilometres, and no deductible.
- Before work starts
- Call us before any warranty work starts, so we can authorise it. Labour paid on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered.
- Making a claim
- A claim starts with a call to us. We file it with the manufacturer, and the manufacturer pays it.
- Not included
- Diesel engines, and engines put into commercial service, are not covered by this 4-year warranty — the terms vary by engine, so call us for the terms on the unit you’re pricing.
12-month warranty on diesel engines
On diesel engines, and any engine put into commercial service. These engines are not covered by the 4-year gas warranty, and they are not uncovered either — the term is shorter.

- 12 months on parts and 12 months on labour, from the date the engine is installed.
- Labour
- Labour is covered at the rate we confirm with your quote, on the remove-and-replace hours in the Mitchell labour guide.
- Also covered
- Diagnostic time is covered up to 2 hours, and fluids up to CAD $200.00.
- Not covered
- Towing and a rental car are not covered.
- Installation
- The engine must be installed by a professional shop, and a claim needs proof of that.
- Before work starts
- Call us before any warranty work starts so we can authorise it.
- Making a claim
- A claim starts with a call to us.
The three that cost people money
- Call before the work starts. Labour on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered, on either warranty. One phone call protects the whole claim.
- The engine must be installed by a professional shop, and a claim needs proof of it. A driveway install is not covered, however well it was done.
- Towing and a rental car are never covered.Neither is a bill beyond the hours in the Mitchell guide. If a shop charges more per hour than the warranty pays, the difference is the customer's.
