Installing a remanufactured engine
A remanufactured engine is built to OEM spec before it reaches you. What happens on install day decides whether it lasts — and whether the warranty stands behind it.
What the warranty requires
- A professional shop installs it, and you keep the invoice. The 4 years start the day the engine is installed, and a claim needs proof that a professional shop installed it.
- Call us before any warranty work starts. Call us before any warranty work starts, so we can authorise it. Labour paid on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered.
- Fix what killed the first engine. A new engine fitted behind the same failed cooling system, injector or oil-starvation fault fails the same way — and that is not a warranty failure.
What a proper install replaces
These are the wear items that come off with the old engine and should not go back on. Most of them cost less than an hour of labour; all of them can take out a new engine.
- Belts
- Timing belts are a separate item where the engine uses one.
- Water pump
- Where the engine takes one — often driven by the timing belt, so it is done at the same time or not at all.
- Thermostat
- The cheapest part on this list and the one most likely to cook a new engine.
- Hoses and radiator cap
- Old hose and a weak cap put a new engine under the wrong pressure.
- Oil, air and fuel filters
- Plus the breather filter.
- Fuel pump
- Where the engine takes one.
- Spark plugs and plug wires
- New plugs in a new engine; old leads undo them.
- Distributor cap, rotor and PCV valve
- On engines that use them.
We supply the install kit
Ask for one with your engine and we quote it on the same order, so the wear items turn up with the engine instead of holding the bay up for a parts run. The kit parts carry a 12-month manufacturer warranty of their own, separate from the engine warranty.
Use the engine's own service data
Torque figures, fill quantities, break-in procedure and the first service interval come from the service data for that engine, not from us. We will not publish a number here that a shop might use instead of the real one — on a fresh engine that is how a bearing goes. If your shop needs the data and does not have it, call us and we will point them at it.
