Platinum Warranty: parts and labour, four years, included on gas engines in non-commercial use

4-year no-fault nationwide warranty — includedOn gas engines in non-commercial use, at no extra charge. The builder’s standard cover is 3 years, parts only. Every gas engine we sell includes the 4-year no-fault warranty with labour, at no extra charge.

  • “No fault” means we do not investigate why it failed — if a covered engine fails inside the term, it is covered.
  • Labour is paid up to CAD $95.00 per hour — a cap on the rate, not a flat payout — and only for the remove-and-replace hours in the Mitchell labour guide. Diagnostic time is covered up to 2 hours, and fluids up to CAD $200.00. Towing and a rental car are not covered. Anything not listed here needs to be agreed with us before the work starts.
  • The 4 years start the day the engine is installed, and a claim needs proof that a professional shop installed it.
  • Unlimited kilometres, and no deductible.
  • Call us before any warranty work starts, so we can authorise it. Labour paid on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered.
  • A claim starts with a call to us. We file it with the manufacturer, and the manufacturer pays it.

Diesel engines, and engines put into commercial service, are not covered by this 4-year warranty — the terms vary by engine, so call us for the terms on the unit you’re pricing.

Mazda J-Series 3.0L V6 (JE)

Also known as: J-series, JE, JE-ZE, 3.0 V6, 929 V6, MPV V6

Overview & history

Before Mazda started sourcing its larger V6 engines from Ford, it built its own: the J-series, a 3.0-litre V6 introduced in the late 1980s for the 929 luxury sedan and the first-generation MPV minivan. It was Mazda's answer to the need for a smooth, mid-size six in vehicles that were competing against Japanese rivals with well-established V6 lineups. In North America the J-series had a relatively quiet career — the 929 was a low-volume flagship and the MPV was a niche minivan — but the engine did solid work in both from 1988 through 1997. It matters most in a parts context because Mazda later fitted a completely different 3.0-litre V6 to the second-generation MPV: the Ford-derived Duratec 30, starting in 2002. A 3.0 V6 MPV from 1995 and a 3.0 V6 MPV from 2003 have nothing mechanically in common, which is exactly the kind of overlap that produces wrong-engine orders.

Specs & engineering

  • •60-degree V6 with overhead camshafts, designed and built by Mazda.
  • •Displacement is 3.0L, fitted longitudinally in the rear-drive 929 and transversely in the MPV.
  • •Belt-driven camshafts.
  • •Entirely separate in design and parts from the Ford Duratec 30 V6 used in later Mazda MPV and Mazda6 models.

Generations & variants

  • •Mazda 929 (1988-1995): the rear-drive flagship sedan, where the J-series was the standard engine.
  • •Mazda MPV (1989-1997): the first-generation minivan, offered with the 3.0 V6 alongside a four-cylinder.
  • •Superseded in North America by the Ford-derived Duratec 30 when the second-generation MPV arrived.

Vehicles it powered

  • •Mazda 929 (1988-1995)
  • •Mazda MPV (1989-1997)

Did you know?

  • ★Mazda sold two entirely different 3.0-litre V6 engines in the MPV across its generations — its own J-series through 1997, and the Ford Duratec 30 from 2002 — a genuine trap when ordering by displacement alone.
