4-year no-fault nationwide warranty — includedOn gas engines in non-commercial use, at no extra charge. The builder’s standard cover is 3 years, parts only. Every gas engine we sell includes the 4-year no-fault warranty with labour, at no extra charge.
- “No fault” means we do not investigate why it failed — if a covered engine fails inside the term, it is covered.
- Labour is paid up to CAD $95.00 per hour — a cap on the rate, not a flat payout — and only for the remove-and-replace hours in the Mitchell labour guide. Diagnostic time is covered up to 2 hours, and fluids up to CAD $200.00. Towing and a rental car are not covered. Anything not listed here needs to be agreed with us before the work starts.
- The 4 years start the day the engine is installed, and a claim needs proof that a professional shop installed it.
- Unlimited kilometres, and no deductible.
- Call us before any warranty work starts, so we can authorise it. Labour paid on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered.
- A claim starts with a call to us. We file it with the manufacturer, and the manufacturer pays it.
Diesel engines, and engines put into commercial service, are not covered by this 4-year warranty — the terms vary by engine, so call us for the terms on the unit you’re pricing.

Ford FE V8 (360 / 390)
Also known as: FE, Ford-Edsel V8, 390, 360 truck V8, FE big-block
Overview & history
The FE — the name comes from Ford-Edsel, the two divisions it was developed for — was introduced for 1958 and became Ford's mainstream big-block V8 through the 1960s. It spanned 332, 352, 360, 390, 406, 410, 427 and 428 cubic inches, and among those are some of the most famous engines Ford ever built: the 427 that won Le Mans in the GT40, the side-oiler racing blocks, and the 428 Cobra Jet that made the 1968-70 Mustang a genuine threat. The two versions in this catalog are the workhorses rather than the legends. The 390 was Ford's volume big-block, used in Galaxies, Thunderbirds, the Mustang GT and countless F-Series pickups, while the 360 was primarily a truck engine — a slightly smaller-bore version tuned for torque and durability rather than power. Both are heavy iron engines with a distinctive wide, tall block and a shared bore spacing that runs through the whole family. FE production for cars ended in 1971, but truck versions carried on to 1976-77.
Specs & engineering
- •Cast-iron block and cast-iron heads; a physically large engine with the block skirt extending below the crankshaft centreline.
- •90-degree V8, pushrod OHV, two valves per cylinder with hydraulic lifters in standard applications.
- •Two displacements here: 5.9L (360 cu in) and 6.4L (390 cu in), sharing a 4.63-inch bore spacing with the rest of the FE family.
- •The 360 uses a smaller bore than the 390 with the same stroke, and was built primarily for truck service.
- •Intake manifold bolts at an angle unique to the FE, and the valve covers seal to a rail formed partly by the intake — an FE identification giveaway.
- •Output in typical car tune ran roughly 265-335 hp for the 390; truck 360s were rated considerably lower.
Generations & variants
- •390 (1961-1976): the volume big-block, in Galaxie, Thunderbird, Fairlane, Mustang GT, LTD and F-Series trucks.
- •360 (1968-1976): the truck-focused version, standard in many F-Series and medium-duty applications.
- •Related high-performance FE engines — the 406, 427 and 428 Cobra Jet — share the same basic architecture but different blocks, cranks and heads.
Vehicles it powered
- •Ford F-100 / F-250 / F-350 (1968-1976)
- •Ford Galaxie / LTD (1961-1974)
- •Ford Thunderbird (1961-1976)
- •Ford Mustang GT 390 (1967-1969)
- •Ford Fairlane / Torino (1966-1971)
- •Mercury Monterey / Marquis (1961-1974)
Did you know?
- ★FE stands for Ford-Edsel — the engine was developed to serve both divisions before Edsel was discontinued.
- ★The 427 FE powered the Ford GT40 that broke Ferrari's streak at Le Mans in 1966; the 390 in a Mustang GT is the same basic engine family.
- ★FE truck 360s were built well after car production ended, continuing into the mid-1970s.
