4-year no-fault nationwide warranty — includedOn gas engines in non-commercial use, at no extra charge. The builder’s standard cover is 3 years, parts only. Every gas engine we sell includes the 4-year no-fault warranty with labour, at no extra charge.
- “No fault” means we do not investigate why it failed — if a covered engine fails inside the term, it is covered.
- Labour is paid up to CAD $95.00 per hour — a cap on the rate, not a flat payout — and only for the remove-and-replace hours in the Mitchell labour guide. Diagnostic time is covered up to 2 hours, and fluids up to CAD $200.00. Towing and a rental car are not covered. Anything not listed here needs to be agreed with us before the work starts.
- The 4 years start the day the engine is installed, and a claim needs proof that a professional shop installed it.
- Unlimited kilometres, and no deductible.
- Call us before any warranty work starts, so we can authorise it. Labour paid on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered.
- A claim starts with a call to us. We file it with the manufacturer, and the manufacturer pays it.
Diesel engines, and engines put into commercial service, are not covered by this 4-year warranty — the terms vary by engine, so call us for the terms on the unit you’re pricing.

Ford Zetec 2.0L Four (DOHC 16-Valve)
Also known as: Zetec, 2.0 Zetec, Zetec-E, 2.0 DOHC 16v, Contour 2.0
Overview & history
Zetec was Ford of Europe's name for its twin-cam 16-valve four-cylinder family, and the 2.0-litre version is the one North American buyers know best. It arrived here in 1995 under the hood of the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique — the world-car project built on the European Mondeo — and it was a noticeable step up in refinement from the pushrod and single-cam fours Ford had been fitting to compact cars. An aluminum-head, iron-block design with a belt-driven twin-cam valvetrain, it made around 125-130 horsepower and revved willingly. It went on to power the first-generation North American Focus, where it was the volume engine, and a high-output version powered the Escort ZX2 sport coupe. Ford also built a tuned Zetec-derived engine for the Focus SVT, and the block architecture underpinned a great deal of European Ford competition work. It was gradually replaced by the Duratec/MZR four after 2004.

Known issues & fixes
Timing belt service interval
What to watch for: A Zetec with no documented belt change — the twin cams are belt-driven.
The fix: Replace the belt and tensioner on schedule and inspect the water pump at the same time.
Did you know?
- ★Zetec was originally a marketing name Ford of Europe adopted after a trademark dispute forced it to abandon its first choice for the engine family.
- ★The Contour and Mystique were Ford's world car experiment — the same platform and engine sold as the Mondeo in Europe.
