4-year no-fault nationwide warranty — includedOn gas engines in non-commercial use, at no extra charge. The builder’s standard cover is 3 years, parts only. Every gas engine we sell includes the 4-year no-fault warranty with labour, at no extra charge.
- “No fault” means we do not investigate why it failed — if a covered engine fails inside the term, it is covered.
- Labour is paid up to CAD $95.00 per hour — a cap on the rate, not a flat payout — and only for the remove-and-replace hours in the Mitchell labour guide. Diagnostic time is covered up to 2 hours, and fluids up to CAD $200.00. Towing and a rental car are not covered. Anything not listed here needs to be agreed with us before the work starts.
- The 4 years start the day the engine is installed, and a claim needs proof that a professional shop installed it.
- Unlimited kilometres, and no deductible.
- Call us before any warranty work starts, so we can authorise it. Labour paid on a repair we were not asked about first is not covered.
- A claim starts with a call to us. We file it with the manufacturer, and the manufacturer pays it.
Diesel engines, and engines put into commercial service, are not covered by this 4-year warranty — the terms vary by engine, so call us for the terms on the unit you’re pricing.

Mitsubishi 4G1 Orion Four (1.5 / 1.6)
Also known as: Orion, 4G1, 4G13, 4G15, 4G61, Mirage 1.5, Colt 1.5
Overview & history
The Orion family is Mitsubishi's small-displacement four, sitting below the better-known Sirius engines. Introduced in the late 1970s and heavily revised through the 1980s, it covered roughly 1.2 to 1.6 litres and did the work in Mitsubishi's entry-level cars. In North America it is most familiar from the Mirage and its badge-engineered relatives: the Dodge and Plymouth Colt, the Eagle Summit, and the Colt Vista and Expo compact vans, all of which were sold through Chrysler dealers as part of the long Mitsubishi-Chrysler relationship. These were light, simple, economical engines with belt-driven overhead cams, and in a lightweight Mirage the 1.5-litre made for a genuinely frugal car. A twin-cam 1.6-litre 4G61 was also offered, including a turbocharged version in some markets. The Orion soldiered on into the early 2000s before Mitsubishi moved to newer designs.
Specs & engineering
- •Cast-iron block with an aluminum cylinder head.
- •Belt-driven overhead camshaft; both SOHC (8- and 12-valve) and DOHC 16-valve heads were produced.

- •Compact and light, designed for transverse front-drive subcompacts.
- •Output ran roughly 81-113 hp depending on displacement and head configuration.

Known issues & fixes
Timing belt service
What to watch for: No documented belt replacement on a belt-driven overhead-cam engine.
The fix: Replace the belt and tensioner at the published interval and inspect the water pump at the same time.

- ★Chrysler sold Mitsubishi Mirages under three different badges — Dodge Colt, Plymouth Colt and Eagle Summit — all powered by these engines.
